On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Paramount Chiefdom of the Bakoko Canton in Japoma hosted a joint initiative by AESECF and NdemaLaSue. Together, the two organizations held the very first information and awareness meeting dedicated to the "poisson 237" fish trades.
The initiative rests on one core idea: beyond its market value, the local fishery resource is a real driver of economic empowerment for the women of Douala.
A collective momentum emerged around the prospects of financial independence offered by processing, fish trading and fish-based catering.
Participants gained a better understanding of ANOR standards, processing hygiene and traceability.
The groundwork for local support was laid, in close cooperation with the Queen of the Paramount Chiefdom of the Bakoko Canton.
A first step towards forming a producer group or cooperative was taken, led by Mrs. Kinguè, appointed by the Queen.
Participants discovered a wide range of options: canning, sausages, improved smoking and drying.
A list of women wishing to be trained was drawn up, along with a survey of priority needs and the identification of local relays.
The discussions were rich, genuine and at times emotional. The women spoke about their difficulties — financial fragility, lack of information, poor access to credit, harmful smoking methods — but also about their aspirations.
Review the pre-registration forms to decide which training modules to prioritize.
Bring the women together around the NdemaLaSue festival, which will serve both as a commercial showcase and a networking space.
Support the creation of a local fish-trades cooperative, with easier access to municipal equipment and to financial inclusion and credit schemes.
AESECF extends its deep gratitude:
« Let us join forces to showcase our know-how and win our independence. »
